
Today’s plant-based food market is worth over 10 billion USD and is expected to reach 34 billion within the next 5 years. According to a new survey by Medical Inspiration Daily For A Stronger SocietyMIDDS) shows Gen Z as the driving force behind this growth.
The most racially diverse and ethically diverse group of Americans in history, these preteens are now between the ages of 14 and 28. They are recognised as one of the most proactive generations about their mental health and consider themselves to be ‘socially conscious’.
Results
The health benefits of food were the primary reason given by 50% of vegans. Although animal cruelty and environment were each ranked at 17% respectively, more than 40% of vegans feel that their dietary decisions positively impact the environmental.
Seven out of ten vegans who were surveyed said that they would continue to eat the same diet for the next five years, despite their desire for more variety.
Results showed that Gen Zers are not all vegans. Nearly 80% of non vegans said they would not become vegans within the next 5 years, and identified meat cravings as being their biggest obstacle.
51% of Gen Zers believe that the biggest barrier for people to becoming vegans is education.
